A couple months ago I asked my best friend if I could "borrow" her and her boyfriend to try out a Beloved Session.  In short, Beloved is a photography session that is focused more on the the actual experience rather than the shoot itself. There is no or minimal posing, and the subjects are given little assignments or "experiences" by the photographer. This type of session really intrigued me the more I researched it. In the photos I had seen, the couples looked completely in love, in the moment, raw-real-emotion. Wow.
Lucky for me, Jenne and Jason were game to try it out. And to my surprise, about an hour before the shoot, I found out they had gotten engaged! So amazing! The session had become an engagement/beloved session!

We threw in a couple posed engagement pictures to show off the ring!

Please enjoy these real and emotional images. I am in love with session and concept and really want to do more of these!

J & J - I am so excited for your life ahead, I can't wait to spend forever with you guys too! And our kids! Thank you for being so open to this session and willing to do what I said!

Below is the post Jen put on Facebook to announce the engagement, I have to share the amazing words she used to describe her session

So we have all made a lot of mistakes in our lives, some of us more than others. J and I have decided that it is time to put our best foot forward and turn over a new leaf…

This photo was taken at the cottage. In February, we invited friends and their kids up for a weekend of winter fun. BFF, BeeJ asked ahead of time, if she could use us in a photo shoot called a ‘Beloved shoot’. She gave us some homework and some ‘to dos’ ahead of the photo shoot. We did all of what she asked, and had a great time doing it. On the day of the photo shoot we were excited not only to share our homework with each other but to share the BIG news with our friends! Just prior to the start of the shoot, BJ (and Matt) were let in on a little secret...we had just gotten engaged!! The shoot now had an added element to it. It was also our engagement shoot. The entire experience was amazing. BJ was so professional and the results speak for themselves. As part of the shoot, we got to share our most important feelings with each other and have fun! Most of the time we didn’t even notice BeeJ was there. We had an awesome time! It was outstanding! BeeJ was able to fully capture on film all of the things that have led us along this path, where we are so thrilled to be able to spend the rest of our lives together. We feel truly blessed and are very excited about our future, and what it has to offer. We have found our perfect happily ever after together with our family!

Thank you BeeJ for your amazing talent! Thanks to Matt for his exceptional ability to care for 4 kids at once, maybe it’s a sign…

Katie and Jeff

What can I say about Katie?
- she is my BFF's little sister
- She drove us nuts when we were children, chasing us around the house and always wanting to hang with "the big girls"
- she has grown into a BEAUTIFUL young woman who can hang around with me any time she wants!!
-She met Jeff, and avid hunter, fisher, outdoorsy guy. They fell in love and now Jeff can hang out with me any time he wants to too!

We "attempted" to get some great engagement photos one evening, but sadly, the sun did not cooperate and went down REALLY fast...so all those great shots we planned in our head did not turn out so well. :( I was bummed - still am actually.

BUT....Luckily for me, these two lovebirds are SO laid back that they have not even set a wedding date yet and we are going to do Round 2 in the spring! And Luckily for them, I know my photography will be EVEN better 6-8 months from now, so they are in for some AMAZING photos!

But for now...Round 1, the shots we did get!

This was totally Katie and Jeff's idea! Love it!

Kate and Jeff...cant wait for the next session, and thanks for all your patience!

May 03, 2012

Here I go, embarking on yet another new adventure. Only this time, I know it will be everlasting, and life changing. Those who know me will say I am a procrastinator. Others will say I am very creative and have gotten used to all of my "ideas of the week"!

Funny story, a friend told me the other day that when she told her husband I wanted to photograph their son, he replied "oh, is this Bobbi-Jo's project of the week?"

THIS TIME is different. (Promise!) Photography has been a passion of mine forever. I always remember having a camera in my hand.  Walking around my neighbourhood photographing random people and things. I began learning about the technical side of cameras in high school, and although I did procrastinate on taking pictures professionally for over 10 years, it was still a hobby, a creative outlet, a passion.  2012 came and I promised myself I would stop putting things on hold, stop doing everything "half-ass" (mind my language!), and JUST DO IT (for lack of a better phrase, thanks Nike!).  So I did, and I am.

That being said, here I go, and I cannot wait to see my photography skills develop, my career grow, my clients smile, and most importantly my passion for photography flourish!
